WEIGHT PROBLEMS - METRIC & IMPERIAL

WE WILL START WITH THE IDIOM:
"Which weighs more - a pound of lead or a pound of feathers?"

Well! Mathematically they are the same weight; however, one must remember weight is one thing but Volume is another.

Today the idiom might be: Which weighs more; a pound of lead or a pound of Styrofoam - Which is easier to measure.

Weight, is the gravitational force pushing down on an object.

That being written: A cubic foot of Styrofoam weighs about 1 to 2 pounds.

LET'T GET DOWN TO BRASS TACKS:
A pound block (ingot) of 99% pure lead measures about (3" x 1-3/8" x 7/8") or (7.6cm x 3.5cm x 2.2cm).

A pound of Styrofoam is about a (12" x 12" x 12") or (30.5cm x 30.5cm x 30.5cm) Cube. The difference in size is VOLUME not WEIGHT.
