MATH FOR SENIORS & ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
HOW MANY PILLS WOULD A PATIENT GET Q. HOW MANY PILLS WERE PRESCRIBED? THE PRESCRIPTION was for 3 pills a day for 90 days with 3 refills. The first prescription was for 3 pills a day for 90 days = (3 X 90) or 270 pills. The three refills = ( 3 X 270 ) = 810 A. Plus the first prescription of 270 = ( 810 + 270) = 1,080 pills total.
USING THIS LOGIC can make it a lot easier to understand math.
THE FORMULA FOR DISTANCE IS: (Speed = Distance ÷ Time) The Jogger jogged 1.5 miles in 17minutes: What was the Joggers speed? THIS IS NOT as easy as it looks to figure out the joggers speed in mph(km). STEP 1: We find the facts: Jogged 1.5 Miles( 2.4km) & Jogged for 17minutes Find the total distance: 1.5 miles = 5280 x 1.5 = 7920 feet(2414.0m) We divide: 7920 ÷ 17 = 465.9feet(142m) We multiply: 465.9 x 60 = 27953 for mph/km per hour. We divide: 27952 ÷ 5280 = 5.29mph(8.51km) Jogging Speed
NOTE: It is important to convert MATH calculations to the correct values. Feet are not yards, meters are not micrometers and so on.
A SENIOR ASKED, "How far is the Senior center from here? A Person said, "It is about a half mile from here".
Q. How many feet are in a half mile?
A. One mile is 5,280 feet
Metric & Imperial (a.k.a. feet & inches) measurements are often rounded to an "about" number.
